Know your tutors: Awais and Mohsin

Awais is a current medical student at the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine. His own UCAT performance speaks to the standard he coaches toward: Quantitative Reasoning 890/900, Decision Making 810/900 and Verbal Reasoning 780/900. Preparation guided by someone who recently earned scores like these, and won a place at one of the world's most competitive medical schools, gives students something no textbook can: the strategies that actually move a score under timed conditions.

Mohsin holds a Master of Science degree and has over 16 years of experience teaching at the university level, guiding students from diverse backgrounds. He provides exam-style drills that replicate UCAT timing pressure and is known for structured explanations that build analytical thinking and exam confidence. He has taught two UCAT sessions with Sylbridge and continues to help students realize their potential. He is also proficient in creating custom tools to help students increase reading and problem-solving speed, saving precious time during the exam.

Understanding the New UCAT

UCAT measures the cognitive skills a clinician relies on: reading quickly and accurately, reasoning through data, and making sound judgements under pressure.

Following the 2025 redesign, the exam is built around three cognitive sections plus a separately scored judgement test:

Verbal Reasoning: reading unfamiliar passages at speed and answering precisely. Historically the section students find hardest.
Decision Making: now the largest cognitive section, testing logic, data interpretation and reasoning through complex scenarios.
Quantitative Reasoning: applied mental arithmetic and problem-solving under tight time limits.
Situational Judgement Test (SJT): measuring professionalism and ethical reasoning, reported separately in bands rather than a numerical score.

Each cognitive section is scored from 300 to 900, giving a maximum of 2700. The Abstract Reasoning section was removed in the 2025 redesign. Universities recalibrate their cut-offs each year, so what counts as competitive shifts with the cohort, which is why percentile position matters more than any fixed target.

How Sylbridge Prepares You
